Safety Tips for Hair Straighteners around Children
Hair straighteners can get as hot as an iron, and they can stay hot enough to badly burn a small child up to 15 minutes after they have been switched off. But many parents don’t know just how dangerous straighteners can be. Which is why these devastating injuries are on the increase. We have found these key safety measures from West Midlands Fire Service to ensure your child is protected from burns and scalds in the home:
Key Safety Measures
- Never leave your straighteners in arms reach of children, not even for a moment.
- As soon as you’ve finished with your straighteners, always switch them off and unplug them. They can stay hot enough to burn a child for a while so put them out of reach – and remember, curious kids are apt to grab any wires hanging down. Apply the same rule to all hot appliances.
- Put straighteners into a heat resistant pouch and put them away straight away. Do not leave them lying around.
Stay safe and keep your littles ones safe in the home – remember these accidents just take a second to occur.
