Making Summer Safe for Children
Summer is a great time for kids to enjoy different indoor and outdoor activities. Whether they are young children or teens, learn ways to keep your kids safe and healthy while they enjoy the summer fun.
- Water safety – Unfortunately drowning’s are the leading cause of injury death for children ages 1 to 4 years old. Three children die every day as a result of drowning.
- Beat the heat and sun – Heat-related illness happens when the body’s temperature control system is overloaded.
- Protect yourself from mosquitos and ticks this summer – make sure you use an effective insect repellent while outside, and check your children for ticks.
- Road safety – Parents should talk with children about bike safety and set ground rules to reduce accident risks, but ultimately it is up to drivers to make sure they do not put children in jeopardy by making unsafe choices while sharing the roads with young bike riders over the summer
