Children should be encouraged to snack between meals, and can be very beneficial. Snacking on the right foods is not harmful. and can have health benefits for kids of all ages. Snacking during the school day improves both mood and motivation, and may also impact concentration. and increase their energy to complete any tasks at hand.

Here are some ideas of some smart “grab and go” snacking foods which can be eaten on the go (or in the back of the car between activities)

  • Homemade trail mix
  • Dried fruit
  • Almonds
  • Hard boiled eggs
  • Grapes
  • Popcorn
  • Banana
  • Slices of apples
  • Soy chips
  • String cheese

Of course there are plenty more to chose from if you are not “on the run” – such as

  • Low fat yogurt
  • Hummus with celery sticks
  • Sliced turkey
  • Cottage cheese
  • and many more!
