6 Ways to Calm Down Kids (anywhere!)

One important social skill a child can learn is how to resolve conflicts. Young children too can learn this skill.  We know that when tempers are frayed, words get ugly. This is very true for adults too.  The inability to calm down, self-regulate, and manage anger can and may have lasting negative effects. It is important as a parent to help your children to learn self control when they are angry.

Here are some ways to teach children to calm down when they are angry:

  • Take a deep breath
  • Go for a walk
  • Count to 10
  • Play music
  • Go outside a kick a ball around
  • Ask for help

As a parent it is important to remember you know your child best and so while this process will work well for some children, it may not work for others. In the same way, their effectiveness will depend on the age and development of your child.
