There are many things that parents work on with their child at home but if your little one is starting school this year be sure that they know the following life skills:

  • Know their name and names of family members
  • Can use the bathroom by themselves
  • Has basic manners
  • Can follow directions from others
  • Can grasp a pencil
  • Has social skills
  • Tie own shoes
  • Leave bathroom clean after use
  • Be able to dress and undress
  • Know their own phone number
  • Self control
  • Enjoyment of learning
  • Number concept
  • Letter recognition
  • Fine motor skills (small movements of the of the fingers, toes, wrists, lips and tongue — such as picking up small objects and holding a spoon)
  • Gross motor skills (bigger movements from the the arms, legs, torso and feet — such as rolling over and sitting)
